Writer / Director / Animator

Roni Niu is a writer, director, and animator from Taiwan who tells stories that feel like vivid dreams — sometimes tender, sometimes weird, often both.

He’s animated for music artists like Khruangbin and Knxwledge, and has experience working on productions for Amazon Prime, Disney+, BBC, and HBO through NFTS and Amazon’s Prime Video Craft Academy (long name, cool program).

In 2023, he was selected as a Writing Fellow with Emmy-nominated platform OTV, where he developed his longer-form screenplay STOP. That same year, he took home 1st Place in “Pitch, Please!”, a competition launched by OTV and the Sundance Institute to champion emerging filmmakers.

His narrative claymation short, Room Temperature — funded via Kickstarter and supported by Creative Scotland — recently completed post-production and is now on the festival circuit.

Roni also makes films under the name Bagels, a filmmaking duo with his best friend Patrick Carlo Bangit. Their work has won international awards, premiered at London’s Rich Mix Cinema, and been distributed globally.
